Mission Statement

The goal of the Massillon Building Department is to provide the citizens of the City of Massillon with the best customer service possible. Whether assisting residents, design professionals, building owners, landlords, or tenants, we believe everyone deserves individual attention. We welcome your questions, thoughts, and comments.

Since 2013, it is also our pleasure to serve the City of Canal Fulton as their Certified Building Department. It is a continued honor and privilege to be partnered with the historic City of Canal Fulton.

The City of Massillon Building Department regulates the construction, demolition, and occupancy of buildings and structures, within the jurisdiction of the City of Massillon and the City of Canal Fulton, in order to protect the health, safety and welfare of our residents. Specifically, we review, approve, and issue all permits required by the State of Ohio, regarding the new construction, repair, alteration, or addition to all public and private buildings and structures, as well as annually register all construction contractors; including general building trades, home improvement, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing.

For Permits, Plan Review, and Inspections:

You are able to submit applications, pay invoices for permits and plan review, search permits and the status of inspections. Please note that online submissions are NOT automatically approved or issued.

For Contractor, Journeyman, and Apprentice Registrations

Contractors, Journeyman, and Apprentices can access their contractor code online through the portal as long as we have a valid e-mail address already on file for you. If you don’t have an email address on file with us, you can call us to update your file and/or we can also provide you with your contractor code. This code will allow you to upload files online to obtain or renew your registration. For Contractors, you will also be able request inspections.
