Magistrate Evan J. Heck Bio
Magistrate Evan J. Heck was appointed by Judges Joel C. Fichter and Andrea M. Scassa on January 2, 2026 to serve as the full-time Magistrate of the Massillon Municipal Court. Before serving as Magistrate for the Massillon Municipal Court, Evan was appointed as a Stark County Family Court Magistrate and Law Clerk by Judge Matthew P. Kreitzer. Evan’s legal experience includes serving as an Assistant Stark County Prosecutor. As a prosecutor for Stark County, Evan handled juvenile and adult felony cases. These duties included handling trials on felony cases ranging from the most serious felony offenses of violence to drug possession cases. As an Assistant Stark County Prosecutor, Evan handled the duties of the Grand Jury Prosecutor and previously served on the Stark County Honor Court Diversion Program for military veterans. Evan’s legal experience also includes work as a Massillon Municipal Prosecutor and as a Staff Attorney for the Office of the Stark County Public Defender.
Born and raised in Navarre, Magistrate Heck graduated from Canton Central Catholic High School in 2007 where he was the recipient of the Tower of Light Award, given to the outstanding senior student for leadership and service to the community. Magistrate Heck completed his undergraduate studies at Walsh University, where he double majored in History and Philosophy. Evan was named as a Daktronics All-American Scholar Athlete for his academic and athletic accomplishments as a member of Walsh University’s Track and Field teams. Evan graduated Magna Cum Laude from Walsh University in 2011. Magistrate Heck attended Case Western Reserve School of Law, earning his Juris Doctorate in May of 2014.
Throughout Magistrate Heck’s career, he has been a member of the Ohio State and Stark County Bar Associations. Currently, Magistrate Heck serves as a member of the Stark County Bar Association Executive Committee.
Magistrate Heck and his family are members of Divine Mercy Parish Catholic Church in Massillon. Evan currently serves as the President of Parish Council for Divine Mercy Parish. Magistrate Heck has previously been a member of Massillon Eagles #190 and Massillon Knights of Columbus Council #554.
Magistrate Heck, his wife Chelsea, and daughter Grace, live in Navarre near the farm he grew up on and where his parents still reside. Evan enjoys raising his family, working outside and spending time with his parents, his five brothers and sisters and twelve nieces and nephews who all reside in the area.
