Magistrate Andrea M. Scassa Bio

Magistrate Andrea M. Scassa was appointed by Judges Edward J. Elum and Joel C. Fichter on February 3, 2020 to serve as the full-time Magistrate of the Massillon Municipal Court.

Prior to serving as Magistrate, Andrea was appointed as the part-time Law Director for the City of Massillon on November 14, 2016. Andrea’s legal experience includes serving as the Staff Attorney for the Canton Municipal Court from 2010 – 2019, and as an assistant prosecutor with the City of Canton’s Prosecutor Office from 2006 – 2010.

Prior to being appointed Law Director, Andrea had the honor of representing the citizens of Massillon as the representative for the Third Ward on Massillon City Council. Andrea was first elected to Massillon City Council in 2012, and was re-elected to two more terms in 2013 and 2015.

Born and raised in Massillon, Andrea graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1998. Andrea completed her undergraduate studies at Miami University, where she majored in Political Science with a minor in Business Law. Andrea attended Capital University Law School, earning her Juris Doctorate in May of 2005. In November 2016, Andrea graduated from the National Center for State Courts, Institute for Court Management Program as a Certified Court Manager.

Throughout Andrea’s career, she has been a member of the American, Ohio State and Stark County Bar Associations. In May 2018, Andrea was elected to serve a three-year term as a member of the Stark County Bar Association’s Executive Committee. Andrea has served as co-chair of the Stark County Bar Association Community Involvement Committee since 2017, and is a current member of the Municipal Court Committee. Andrea served on the Stark County Bar Association Grievance Committee from 2015-2018.

Andrea is a current member of the Western Stark County Homeless Task Force, and has previously served as a member of the Stark County Community Corrections Planning Board. Andrea is a former chairperson of the Massillon Fair Housing Board, and former member of the Massillon Historic Preservation Commission. In 2018, Andrea was a recipient of the Canton Chamber of Commerce ystark! Twenty under 40! award.

Andrea and her family are members of St. Mary Catholic Church in Massillon. Andrea previously served as President of St. Mary’s School PTO from 2014 to 2019.

Andrea and her husband, Steve, are busy raising their four daughters in Massillon.
